12.8 @ 2pm ct: Cost-Effective Streaming for Public Health Communications
Rounding out our next webinar day, Tuesday December 8, is Matt Duffy with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services presenting “Pandemic + Recession = Webcasting: Cost-Effective Streaming for Public Health Communications.” Our monthly webinars are always always free. Just register here before we go live.
Matt’s been around the block when it comes to public health crises, communication challenges and webcasting. Here’s a story from Government Technology magazine back in October 2003 (yes, this government agency has been webcasting for over 6 years) when the Department used Mediasite to educate the public about monkey pox.
When the spread of H1N1 (swine) flu began to accelerate this fall, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services again needed to get more information to more people more quickly than ever before. But slammed with unprecedented fiscal pressures and increasingly complex data to present, the current system of monthly teleconferences simply could not scale.
Matt Duffy to the rescue. As Communications and Customer Service Supervisor, Duffy introduced in-house webcasting to the State of Wisconsin Health Officer, Dr. Seth Foldy, resulting in now weekly briefings via live webcast to more than 500 local public health staffers, health care workers and first responders (police and fire). And as the flu makes a comeback in the U.S., the weekly H1N1 briefing has now become the most viewed on-demand webcast the state produces.
Duffy will discuss how to:
- Leverage streaming audio, video and visual aids via Mediasite to present more detailed health information
- Save money using webcasting for live public health briefings
- Increase both access and retention through on-demand webcasts and closed captioning
- Build partnerships quickly between IT professionals, communication staff and subject matter experts
- Overcome perceived barriers to online briefings, including security, bandwidth, downloads and camera-shy presenters
- Generate early successes that get the right kind of attention from agency leadership
- Evaluate the impact of webcasting on public health communication and education goals
