Read for the Record: Devour “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” with Matt Lauer, Arizona Governor Brewer and Mediasite
It’s quite possible that today, October 8th, 2009, more people will read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle at the same time than ever before (the caterpillar’s celebrating its 40th anniversary this year too).
That’s because today Jumpstart, a nonprofit organization that helps at-risk preschool children get the jumpstart they need, aims to set a new world record for the greatest number of people reading the same book on the same day. It’s part of their Read for the Record program, launched in 2006 to bring preschool children together with valued grownups in their lives while raising national attention for the importance of early childhood education.
Today, more than one million children and adults are expected to team up to read this year’s book, starting off with Jumpstart’s official spokespeople Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira on NBC’s “TODAY” show. And continuing throughout the day with thousands of reading events in schools, libraries, community centers and – through the power of Mediasite – online.
Sonic Foundry had the pleasure of partnering with CCS Presentation Systems to capture Arizona Governor Jan Brewer reading the book.
Don’t have a copy of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” laying around? Fear not. Just round up your son/daughter/niece/nephew/neighbor/friends, click here for the on-demand webcast and enjoy as you help us Read for the Record!
