Stat: students don’t skip class when materials are online

We get asked a lot if lecture capture affects in-class attendance. The EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research released The ECAR Study of Undergraduate Students and Information Technology. A section on “Skipping Classes when Materials are Online” reports most respondents (62.3%) say they do not skip classes when materials from course lectures are available online.

Penn State’s Hershey Medical Center found the same. Faculty members reported that recording their lectures did not decrease class attendance. Same result at UC Irvine’s Merage School of Business.
